Picture the days before choosing pieces
Packing for two nights can make taking the whole jewellery box seem tempting. First divide the trip into simple scenes: travelling, a day out and dinner. Lay out the clothes you will actually pack, then choose jewellery beside them. This helps you notice pieces added only for an imagined possibility. You don’t need a separate set for every scene. One pair of earrings might accompany both daytime outfits, while a favourite necklace works with a shirt and a plain top. Begin with real pairings rather than a target number.
Choose a shared piece and one change
A starting selection could be everyday earrings, a necklace that works with two outfits and one different piece for dinner. Treat this as an example; if rings are your preference, substitute one. Place every chosen piece beside at least one planned outfit. If something has no pairing, consider leaving it at home instead of adding more clothes. Look again for two pieces doing the same job when you know you will reach for only one. A smaller selection can make mornings away from home feel easier.
Leave yourself a note after the trip
Arrange the pieces in separate compartments where you can see them, following their own storage instructions. Photograph the selection before closing your bag to help remember what you brought. When you return, note what stayed unused and what you wore repeatedly. Pay particular attention to anything packed “just in case” that never left its compartment.
